Prolotherapy

Τogether in every effort

Science serves your will

Prolotherapy is known as a non-surgical regenerative injectable treatment, responsible for the reconstruction of ligaments and tendons. It promotes the healing process, strengthens and repairs injured joints and connective tissues.

It is based on the fact that when the ligaments and tendons surrounding the joint stretch or tear, the joint becomes destabilized and painful. Prolotherapy can repair weak tissues and produce new collagen tissue. This leads to the permanent stabilization of the joint.

Traditional surgical approaches involve great risk and they may fail to stabilize the joint as well as to relieve pain.

Prolotherapy works by promoting the body’s natural healing mechanism for the growth of new tissue in affected structures. This is achieved through directed injection into the affected area, “forcing” the body to heal itself. The anti-inflammatory reaction caused by the injection, triggers the development of new – normal ligaments and tendons.

In addition, it includes natural materials that stimulate the healing process, as well as local anesthetic which reduces pain during infusion. Traditionally, the materials used are glucose, saline solution, procaine and lidocaine. The pain varies depending on the structure being treated. Following treatment, the pain may slightly intensify, and it may be accompanied by mild swelling and tension, which is treated with analgesic treatment. Anti-inflammatory drugs are contraindicated as a means of analgesia, because they suppress the effective action of Prolotherapy.

These are the diseases we treat through Prolotherapy:

  • back pain, pain due to a herniated intervertebral disc
  • sacroiliac joint instability / dysfunction
  • neck pain
  • knee pain
  • meniscus tear
  • pain in the radiocarpal joint
  • osteoarthritis
  • shoulder pain including rotator cuff tear
  • tendonitis
  • epicondylitis
  • plantar fasciitis
  • ankle pain
  • and any kind of musculoskeletal pain

Treatment is individualized depending on the patient’s condition. The standard approach involves up to 6 treatments which should be applied 3 weeks apart.
